Five Foods Every Man Should Know How to Cook

Learning how to cook is a very important manly art — but that doesn’t mean you need to be a pro chef. There are several great foods you can learn how to cook that taste great without a whole lot of prep time. And when we lead busy lives of work, exercising, family and hobbies, it doesn’t always make sense to spend hours in the kitchen. Luckily, these five foods every man should know how to cook can be cooked in a matter of minutes, and are great for almost any dining occasion.

I don’t know how the malicious lie that bacon isn’t good for you ever got spread, but when I was growing up, people said bacon killed you with every bite you took. In reality, bacon is fine for you in moderation, and even contains a lot of good nutrients. Plus, every man loves bacon. But cooking it right is easier said than done. Because bacon is pork, it needs to be fully cooked when you eat it, as pork can have harmful bacteria in it. However, you also don’t want to overcook your bacon, because that can be bad for you, too. Finding the right balance between too much and not enough is critical whenever cooking pork, and bacon is no exception.

I like to cook my bacon either in a skillet or simply in a microwave. When I cook it in a skillet I make sure to keep it covered and when I cook it in the microwave, I wrap it in paper towels to make sure the grease gets soaked into the towels.

Eggs are an excellent source of protein and other nutrients, and every man should know how to cook them. They make for a great and easy breakfast, and can be included in a plethora of other meals. I like my eggs scrambled best, but there also a bunch of other great ways to cook your eggs that I also enjoy.

Ahh…steak. The ultimate guy food. But cooking a steak is easier said than done, and there many, many different kinds of cuts to choose from. Getting to know these different kinds of cuts and how best to cook a steak you enjoy is a rite of passage into grown adulthood. I prefer grilling my steaks best over high eat. Sometimes I’ll marinade them a bit before cooking them (you can make your own marinade pretty easily) and I always let them sit for a while after cooking them, usually coated in butter.

Knowing how to cook a good burger is essential. Like steaks, I find grilling to be the best method. Although unlike steak, there aren’t as many variables and cooking burgers is usually pretty straightforward. I also cook my burgers over high heat, and I try to avoid overcooking them. I also like to add a bit of seasoning to my patties to give them an extra taste. Also, because there is a bit of fat in burgers, it makes sense to make your patties a bit bigger than what you want the finished product to be, because they’ll be a whole lot smaller by the time they are done cooking.

Corn and Brussel Sprouts

Nothing says summer like a nice corn on the cob. I like to (you guessed it) grill my corn, although I know there are plenty of other viable ways to cook your corn. Corn is a great vegetable to add to your meal, and has plenty of nutrients while still tasting great.

Also, brussels sprouts are also quite good, especially when grilled or cooked in a skillet. I usually cook mine in the skillet. I add plenty of olive oil, salt them, and let them get nice and dark brown and crunchy before serving them. brussesl sprouts are probably one of the best vegetables for you, with an insane amount of nutrients and special, soluble fiber that helps you loose weight.

There you have it — these are the five staples of any manly diet! Go get some practice cooking these dishes today — they aren’t as easy to cook as you might think so it might take some trial and error before you get it just right.
